Day 2 Week 1:Flying solo - activity 1

Jean Batten and Amelia Earhart were a aviator. Amelia Earhart was born on 24th of July 1897 at United States and also she was the first woman to fly solo from England to New Zealand without stopping. She attempted to fly across the whole world but sadly while flying she disappeared at the pacific ocean. Jean Batten could've been the first woman to fly solo but she was born on 15th of September 1909 in Rotorua which is in New Zealand. She became the best-known New Zealander of the 1930's.

Day 1:Scaling New Heights - Activity 3

Air Rescue is a company that help people when they are hurt, in a car crash, fire and more. How they get to there location is pretty cool. They fly in a helicopter to there destination. They also provide a shared lunch for the community which is very cool.

Day 1 :Discovering Aotearoa - Activity 2

Activity 2: Discovering Aotearoa [4 points]
Many people believe that Kupe was the first explorer to discover Aotearoa,
New Zealand in about 1300. He navigated his way by waka to Aotearoa
from Hawaiki using traditional Polynesian navigation techniques - just like
Nainoa Thompson (from Activity 1) did much later on. Legend says that he
followed a great octopus all the way to Aotearoa/New Zealand and finally
destroyed it in Cook Strait (the water between the North and South Islands).
Many years later, a Dutch explorer from The Netherlands, Abel Tasman,
was exploring the Pacific Ocean when he came across New Zealand. He
thought that he was the first person to ‘discover’ the country (despite the
fact that Māori already lived in New Zealand!) and made the claim in 1642
that he had ‘discovered’ a new land. His exploration of New Zealand inspired
many other European explorers to follow his lead and travel to the Oceania.
Kupe and Abel Tasman were two different men from two very different
backgrounds (cultures) who shared a common interest - exploration.

My family and I come from an island in Tonga named Ha'apai.
In Tonga we do a lot of things and people think we are weird
because we eat Pig, Horse and a lot more.
