Week 3 Term 1 - 2020 Addition and Subtraction - Maths activities for all groups
85 + 52 = 137
80 + 50 = 130
5 + 2 = 7
130 + 7 = 137
So we had to figure out how much Miss Smith and Miss Kyee bought all together.
So Miss Smith bought 85 water balloons and Miss Kyee bought 52.
So we added the 10's first so 80 + 50 and it added up to 130, and then we added the 1's so 5 + 2 = 7, then we added our answers up and we got 137.

How Drought Affects Living Things
How Drought

In a drought the water levels in rivers, lakes and reservoirs are
reduced and some of these eventually dry up. When levels fall
too low, the water becomes dirty, which can lead to disease. People
need clean water for drinking, cooking and washing.

Without rain, fertile land dries out and develops deep cracks.
Hot winds blow away the parched topsoil, so the land is no longer
suitable for growing crops, or feed for livestock.

Maths
Today in the morning my group and I did a math problem. The problem was, Glenbrae School was going on a trip to Auckland Museum and they were taking 190 students with them. They hired some buses and each bus could hold 25 passengers. How many buses did they hire?
So first we knew that 1 bus holds 25 passengers, so we did 2 buses which added up to 50 students, then we did another 2 buses which added to 50 as well. We added 50 and 50 which added up to 100. Then we did another 2 which had 50 and added that 50 to the 100 which added up to 150, then we did another 1 bus which had 25 passengers and added that 25 to the 150 which added up to 175.
Now we only have 15 students left. I put them in another bus and added 175 to 15 which added up to 190. So you need 8 buses.
